Tracking the Enigmatic Globular Cluster Ultracompact X-Ray Binary X1850–087: Extreme Radio Variability in the Hard State

چکیده

Abstract The conditions under which accreting neutron stars launch radio-emitting jets and/or outflows are still poorly understood. ultracompact X-ray binary X1850–087, located in the globular cluster NGC 6712, is a persistent atoll-type source that has previously shown unusual radio-continuum variability. Here we present results of pilot radio-monitoring program X1850–087 undertaken with Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array, simultaneous or quasi-simultaneous Swift/XRT data obtained at each epoch. clearly detected radio two six new epochs. When combined previous data, these suggest shows emission slightly elevated hard-state luminosity L X ≳ 2 × 10 36 erg s −1 , but no its baseline hard state ∼ . No clear spectral changes associated this factor ≳10 At all epochs, flat to inverted index, more consistent partially absorbed optically thick synchrotron compact jet rather than evolving thin transient expanding synchrotron-emitting ejecta. If indeed due jet, then it plausibly being launched and quenched on timescales as short few days. Future monitoring could help elucidate produced around stars.

X-ray Variability during the Quiescent State of the Neutron Star X-ray Transient in the Globular Cluster Ngc 6440

The globular cluster NGC 6440 is known to harbor a bright neutron star X-ray transient. We observed the globular cluster with Chandra on two occasions when the bright transient was in its quiescent state, in 2000 July and 2003 June (both observations were made nearly 2 yr after the end of their preceding outbursts). The quiescent spectrum during the first observation is well represented by a tw...

Globular cluster x-ray sources.

Globular clusters and x-ray astronomy have a long and fruitful history. Uhuru and OSO-7 revealed highly luminous (> 10(36) ergs(-1)) x-ray sources in globular clusters, and Einstein and ROSAT revealed a larger population of low-luminosity (< 10(33) ergs(-1)) x-ray sources. It was realized early on that the high-luminosity sources were low-mass x-ray binaries in outburst and that they were order...

An X - ray and optical study of the ultracompact X - ray binary A 1246 - 58

Results are discussed of an X-ray and optical observation campaign of the low-mass X-ray binary A 1246-58 performed with instruments on Satellite per Astronomia X ('BeppoSAX'), the Rossi X-ray Timing Explorer (RXTE), the X-ray Multi-mirror Mission ('XMM-Newton'), the Swift mission, and the Very Large Telescope. Spectra and flux time histories are studied. The most important results are the lack...
